10 Amazing Benefits of Rosemary Essential Oil

What's Rosemary Essential Oil?
There are three types (called chemotypes) of rosemary essential oils: camphor, cineol and verbenone with their benefits and specificities of use. Depending on the place and the growing conditions, the rosemary plant develops a specific chemical composition, and it explains why there are different chemotypes available.
I will talk about the cineol type as it's usually used in cosmetics and the type used to manufacture my grapefruit & rosemary shampoos. As usual, I favour high-quality and organic essential oil from a trustable supplier.
INCI name: Rosmarinus officinalis.
Extraction method: Steam distilled.
Part of the plant extracted: branches.
Origin: Mediterranean region.
Colour: Colourless to pale yellow.
Scent: Fresh, woody, herbal scent.
Consistency: Very liquid
Main biochemical constituents: 1,8-cineole, alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, camphor, borneol.
Precautions / Side effects:
- Please do not use this essential oil during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in children under 6 years old.
- Not recommended for subjects at risk of epilepsy or people with asthma (especially inhalation or diffusion).
Part of the mint family (Lamiaceae), rosemary is mainly used as a flavouring in cooking but also popular in herbal medicine for its benefits as a relaxant and expectorant. As the essential oil is rich in 1,8-cineole, it helps to thin mucus, can facilitate breathing by unclogging noses and clearing the bronchi. Hence, rosemary can be recommended in case of ear, nose or throat infections such as colds, bronchitis or sinusitis.
Rosemary is also traditionally used in case of physical fatigue or nervous exhaustion and can be useful when exams are approaching. Well-known to help curing ailments, the aromatic plant can be also effective in beauty products. Thanks to its powerful hair and scalp benefits, Rosemary cineole essential oil is often used in hair care products formulated for greasy hair, damaged hair, to help stimulating hair growth or in case of hair loss. The cosmetic ingredient works very well in synergy with grapefruit essential oil to fortify hair.
